The latest news from the Whitstable manager ahead of our game at Rusthall

Dear supporters,

I want to take this opportunity to update you all with the current squad and introduce a few new faces.

In the last few days, we have worked extremely hard to secure the signatures of the following players:

Liam Gillies - an attacking central midfielder who returns to the club as a league winner. Liam is a player that I have worked closely with in the past year and I am delighted to bring him back to the club. He is a player with a great attitude and bundles of talent and energy.

Reiss Chandler - a former Southend United graduate. Despite stiff competitions from Step 3 clubs, Reiss has decided to join us from Canvey Island. Reiss is a natural right sided full back, but is equally comfortable as a defensive midfielder, which is where we are planning to play him. A huge thank you to Brad Wellmen, the Canvey Island manager, who made the transfer very easy - a great guy and a great gentleman.

Michael Uwezu - a versatile midfielder who can play wide as well as a ‘Ten’. Michael has an exceptional footballing CV and his vast experience is something that we were keen to add to our young midfield.

Caoilte Deakin – a defensive minded central midfielder who joins us from Dulwich Hamlet’s academy and is an exciting addition to our midfield. Whilst Caoilte is a young player in age, he certainly shows a lot of maturity on the pitch.

The above players follow the earlier arrivals, which also include:

Victor Aiyelabola, Gus Barnes, Atta Gyedu and Jeffery Oredein - all young midfielders under the age of 23 with a great future ahead in football.

Whilst the squad numbers are currently high, the players know and understand the importance of embracing the competition from one another.

The players acknowledge that the first team results have not been good enough and understand that changes are being made for the good of the club. The players are onboard and all putting in honest, hard work to get the first team to reach consistency in both performances and results

As with all changes, time is needed to evolve a new culture within the first team set up. Player involvement is not just a routine football match where they ‘turn up, play, and go’, but rather a commitment to a cause that has values and community impact. It is significantly important to us that we bridge the interaction between our community and the team. The players are beginning to understand their role within the club and are already enjoying and embracing these beliefs.

Patience is also essential during these times of change as we look to establish our own ‘playing identity’. We are keen to gradually evolve the squad, and players need that positive and encouraging atmosphere to be able to implement our ideas. It will not always work, and it will take time until we start to get consistency, but when we reach that stage, which we will, it will start to bring those great times that we all want.

The support home and away in these three weeks has been immense and our driving factor. We kindly ask you all to continue your commitment towards us as we highly appreciate it and need it.

Thank you all,
Marcel
