We couldn’t let International Goalkeepers Day last week pass by without taking the opportunity to celebrate all the talented Goal Keepers within the club.

Before the match on Saturday, 20 of the club’s keepers from U7s to the U18s came along and joined our First Team Goalkeeper, Dan Eason, our First Team Goalkeeping Coach, Charlie Himbury and our Youth Goalkeeping Coach, Tom Goldfinch, for an extra special Goalie Wars Tournament.

It was unusual to see a whole team of players in the club’s goalkeeping kit, a sea of lime green. For a couple of hours, they were put through their paces with various drills and fun games. They even got to test themselves against a ball-launcher machine firing footballs at them!

At the end of the session, Charlie presented each keeper with their own specially created pair of gloves in the Whitstable Town colours. Made especially for this day by his company Cat-GK these were hugely appreciated by the young keepers. Thank you, Charlie!

WTFC put on regular twice-monthly sessions for all club keepers to attend, offering specialised training by qualified coaches.

"The GK Day was a great opportunity to get all the WTFC GK’s together, from Dan our First Team GK all the way down to the U8’s. As First Team GK Coach I want to create a Goalkeeping Pathway from our youth teams all the way through to the First Team.
