The Oystermen have been drawn away to Margate in the First Round of the GoCardless Kent Senior Cup.
There is plenty of history between the two clubs in this competition. Whitstable and Margate met four times in the Kent Senior Cup between 1909 and 1929, with the Oystermen winning three and losing one. One of those victories came in 1911 with a 4-1 win, but it came with a twist, as Whitstable were later found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, expelled from the competition, suspended from football for 14 days and fined £5!
The clubs were regular opponents in the Kent League throughout the 1950s, but have met just once since 1959 – an FA Cup tie at the Belmont in 2006, when Margate claimed a 2-1 victory in front of 1,114 supporters.
This latest meeting at Hartsdown Park must be played before Wednesday 9 September, with the confirmed date and ticket information to be announced in due course.
We hope to see plenty of Oystermen making the trip to get behind Lee and the lads as they look to progress in this season's Kent Senior Cup. Up the Oystermen!
