Whitstable Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Matty Holness ahead of the new season.
Holness arrives at The Belmont after progressing through the Dover Athletic academy system before breaking into the club’s first-team setup. A highly-rated young defender, Matty then gained more valuable experience in senior football through loan spells at other clubs.
The defender made his debut for Dover Athletic in April 2024 and signed his first senior contract with the club at the start of the 2024/25 season. He then spent time on loan with Erith & Belvedere and Lordswood, helping him adapt to the demands of senior football. He started the 2025/26 season playing for Chislehurst Glebe before earning a December move to Herne Bay where he made 19 appearances in the Isthmian League.
Known for his commitment, defensive awareness and willingness to learn, Matty arrives at Whitstable as an exciting young prospect with plenty of experience already under his belt despite his age. Comfortable in defence and eager to continue developing, he adds further quality and competition to the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Manager Lee Martin said:
"Matty is a player we're really pleased to bring to the club.
"He's a young defender with a great attitude and a strong grounding from his time at Dover.
"He's already gained valuable senior experience and that's helped him develop as a player. He's hungry to improve, wants to work hard and we're looking forward to helping him continue his progression.
"We're delighted to welcome him to Whitstable and look forward to working with him this season."
Everyone at Whitstable Town would like to welcome Matty to The Belmont and wish him every success in an Oysters shirt.
