Whitstable Walking Football Over-60s made the long trip to Tonbridge Angels to compete in a tournament featuring eight teams from across the region.
Facing several well-established sides from West Kent, the Whitstable squad produced a series of determined performances throughout the day. The team earned a hard-fought draw against Tonbridge Green, who would eventually finish as tournament runners-up, and were unlucky to suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat to tournament winners Tonbridge Blues.
Three other matches also ended in close 1-0 losses, highlighting how competitive Whitstable were throughout the tournament. Despite collecting a deserved point and pushing several strong opponents all the way, the side narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.
The players showed great commitment and resilience, particularly in the very high temperatures, and can be proud of their performances against strong opposition.
A special mention goes to goalkeeper Paul, who was named Whitstable's Player of the Tournament for a series of outstanding displays between the posts.
The squad for the tournament was: Geoff, Steve, John, Rich, Charlie, Paul, Ged and Det.
Anyone interested in joining Whitstable Walking Football Over-60s is welcome to attend training sessions at the Belmont on Monday evenings from 8:30pm.
