Following the resignation of Lloyd Blackman and the appointment of Keith McMahon as the new first team manager at Whitstable, there have unsurprisingly been a number of changes to the staff and players at the Belmont. There will undoubtedly be further news in the near future, but in an attempt to keep everyone updated, here is a summary from the last few weeks.
Departures
The following is a summary of recent departures from the club, and we thank them for their efforts during their time at Whitstable and wish them well in their future endeavours.
Ben Harding
Ben joined Whitstable as a player-coach at the start of this season and helped us greatly by acting as interim manager when Lloyd left. He originally agreed to stay on and work with Keith, but has since accepted an offer from Ramsgate. He made 3 appearances as a player for Whitstable.
Ryan Flack
Ryan made 15 appearances for Whitstable after joining from Cray Valley in October 2020, but decided to leave to seek football elsewhere when Lloyd resigned.
Liam Gillies
Although still registered as a Whitstable player for the Isthmian League, Liam is now playing for Sheppey in the SCEFL Premier Division. He has made 52 Whitstable appearances over the past 3 seasons, scoring once.
Nico Cotton
Nico moved from Haywards Heath to Whitstable this season and featured in 7 games before leaving to join Ramsgate.
Harry Stannard
Harry has left to join Sittingbourne after a couple of spells at Whitstable. He originally made his debut in November 2015 and has made a total of 60 appearances, scoring 22 goals.
Arrivals
Here are the new faces that have joined since Lloyd left, and we welcome them to the club.
Stephen Wait
Stephen has worked with Keith McMahon for a number of years, originally as a goalkeeping coach, and has joined Whitstable as an assistant manager to help Keith in his new role.
Mark Taylor
Mark has joined as a new coach, following the departure of Ben Harding. Mark was previously a coach at Herne Bay and has plenty of coaching experience in youth, academy and university football in Kent.
Harry Goodger
Experienced striker Harry originally joined Whitstable from Hungerford Town and played five games for us at the start of the 2017-18 season, scoring three goals, before signing for Wealdstone. He has played for Faversham, Sittingbourne and Hollands and Blair since returning to Kent.
Luke Griffiths
Luke is a goal scoring midfielder who has previously played for Faversham Town, VCD Athletic and Sheppey United.
Alex Gaggin
Alex is a quick and experienced winger who has signed from VCD Athletic. The 26 year old has also played for Margate, East Grinstead and Phoenix Sports.
Luke Illsley
Luke is a central midfielder signed from Herne Bay, who has previously played for Enfield Town, Cheshunt, Hertford Town, Chalfont St. Peter and East Thurrock.
Luca Woodhouse
Luca is a promising young midfielder who has joined Whitstable on dual registration from Tonbridge Angels. He is a product of the Tonbridge academy and has also featured for East Grinstead this season.
Injury Updates
Unfortunately, Simon Kabamba has joined Leo Mazzone on the long term injury list, both having picked up serious knee injuries during pre-season. Marcus Evans, who had a knee operation some time ago is still not fit to return at this time.
Jack Miles and Alex Gaggin are both currently recovering from injuries and should be available to play soon.
