Details published for the Velocity Trophy

The details of the Velocity Trophy for the 2019-20 season have now been published. The league cup competition this year will commence with the first division clubs competing in ten regional groups of five or six teams. Three teams did not enter (Dereham Town, Guernsey and Whitehawk). The ten group winners will progress to the knockout stages, where they will be joined by the twenty-two premier division teams.

The changes were introduced as a response to a number of clubs feeling that the reduction in the league sizes meant that they did not have enough fixtures. The gate money will be shared by the competing clubs in each fixture, but they can mutually agree to reduce the admission charges.

In the group games, there will be three points for a win, but if the scores are level after 90 minutes, the teams will receive one point each and there will be a penalty shootout, with the winners gaining a bonus point. Each team can play up to five substitutes from the five named on the bench. The teams will play each other once, either home or away, depending on the draw. All group matches must be played by the 22nd November.

Whitstable Town are in group seven, together with Ashford United, Faversham Town, Herne Bay, Hythe Town and Ramsgate. Whitstable have been given home fixtures against Herne Bay, Faversham and Ashford.

Details of the groups can be found on the league website from the link below.
