A month without a game costs Whitstable

Having not played for a month it was great to be back in action today with an away game in Deal.

With the wind behind them in the first half Whitstable started brightly and could have been three up in the first fifteen minutes with great goalkeeping and way wood finishing keeping Deal in the game.

On nineteen minutes Whitstable won a corner and Max Purnell skilfully curled the ball directly in giving the keeper no chance.

Whitstable created several more chances but couldn’t increase their lead so went into half time 1-0 up.

With a strong wind now in their faces Whitstable again started well and on the fiftieth minute Max Morris went through one on one with the keeper and slid the ball accurate past the out rushing keeper.

Skipper Danny Loveridge then went though on goal but when about to shoot was pushed in the back by the chasing defender. Being the honest player he is Dan stayed on his feet- decision NO PEN.

Deal then rallied and scored when Whitstable failed to defend a corner allowing a free header.

Two minutes later Deal were awarded a penalty when a loose ball bounced up onto a defenders hand in the box. Having already made several great saves GK Joe Allen looked confident but couldn’t quite get to a well struck penalty.

With the score at two all and fifteen minutes left Max Morris once again went through one on one but when lining up to shoot had his back foot clipped by the chasing defender. Also showing great honesty Max stayed on his feet but couldn’t then generate any power in his shot- decision NO PEN........

Whitstable didn’t give up and pressed for a winner all the way to the end but it wasn’t to be.

The boys felt extremely disappointed with the draw but having created that many chances in the game and showed great sportsmanship when decisions went against them it was definitely a moral victory....

Next up Ramsgate at Radfall.
