A Great Battle

Having drawn one all with Ramsgate in our away fixture before Christmas we were looking forward to them coming over to Radfall, unfortunately with all the recent rain we played our home fixture over at their home ground again.

The game started where the the last one left off at a frantic pace with Whitstable probably just edging it in the first fifteen minutes moving the ball around quickly breaking through Ramsgate’s lines on several occasions.

Ramsgate’s game plan was always to get the ball up to their speedy striker but our back three coped extremely well tackling him early on his first touch and doubling up on him when necessary.

Somewhat against the run of play Whitstable went behind on 19 minutes when our goal kick fell to a Ramsgate player who punished us for being slow to react for the first time.

Just as it looked like it would be one nil at the half time break another Whitstable attack led to a hand ball in the box and the penalty was rightly awarded. Brandon Hosking confidently placed the ball and gave the keeper no chance driving the spot kick low and hard just inside the keeper’s right hand post. One all at the break.

After the break and more of the same end to end football.

Ramsgate were next to score on 55 minutes when they converted a one on one chance.

Just as in the first game this seemed to spur Whitstable on and we seemed to up the intensity even more while remaining creative and a constant threat.

With six minutes remaining wing back Ruben Hayes, still full of energy, drove forward with the ball and played a cute pass to Brandon Hosking. Brandon cleverly drew two defenders towards him and cut a pass back to Ruben who made no mistake in front of goal.

The game finished 2-2. This was a real squad performance with every player giving their all and giving me a real selection headache for next week.....
