Having drawn our last two matches today was all about getting 3 points. We’ve been creating lots of chances recently and working hard on off the ball movement in training so we set out for the win today.
After two minutes a handball in the box gave us an early chance to take the lead. Having scored a pen last week Brandon Hosking stepped up again. Unfortunately it was his first touch of the ball and he blasted it just over the cross bar....
With the wind behind them Whitstable dominated for most of the first half and after 17 minutes a curling Danny Loveridge corner was bundled in by Derin Altun who was quickest to react in the six yard box.
Danny Loveridge made it 2 two minutes later when he was on the end of a slick 4 man passing move started from the back by Zack Silcock.
Two nil at half time.
The second half , against the wind, was always going to be tough. Hawkinge were awarded a soft penalty on the 42nd minute which, although close, GK Joe Allen couldn’t quite get to..
Whitstable were awarded a free kick deep in their own half after 55 minutes and quick thinking centre back Dan Moreton spotted a great attacking run by Ruben Hayes putting him through one on one with the Hawkinge keeper. For the second week in a row , wing back,Ruben made no mistake and restored the two goal cushion.
Another converted penalty to Hawkinge in the 60th minute made for a nervy final 10 minutes but Whitstable saw the game out well.
Great to get the three points and the morale boost...
