Not all heroes wear capes

Another big England victory in the Rugby and another slim away defeat for the Whitstable Town Under 9s. But that doesn't tell half the story...

School holidays had again reduced our squad to 8, further depleted by Max B having to drop out after the warm up having aggravated a mid-week trampoline injury, this doesn't happen at Barca! The opponents, contained two of our former players and have had a storming season so far. There was a slight air of concern, we hoped we weren't beaten before we'd kicked a ball.

The 7 lined up with with Louis in nets, Alfie and Max P at the back, Kasper (capt) in the centre mid. Flynn right, Finn left and Harry up front.

The match was a battle from start to finish, despite going behind and being two down at the half time the lads were working their socks off for each other. Chasing back, fighting for every ball, closing down their opponents and playing some great football when they did get on the ball.

We changed things up in the second half, Louis had made some great saves in the first half, but rotated with Finn taking over in goal.

The opponents had two subs that they were rotating making our magnificent 7 work even harder. The boys continued to battle and reduced Herne bay to long range efforts. We starting creating more and our efforts were rewarded with a well worked team goal finished off by Louis. Back in the game!!

The rest of the match was a fantastic example of our teamwork and positive attitude, as we edged the second half and went close to getting our deserved draw.

At the final whistle the lads came off shattered, but they had been outstanding. Probably the best performance of the season in terms of effort and teamwork. They chased and battled for every ball and played some great football. Really proud of the lads.
