Best performance ever

On Saturday our U9 Whites came up against a very strong Ramsgate Silver team who are actually playing up a year as that they have only lost once in around 50 games, so we knew this was going to be a tough test. It was!

After an impeccably observed minutes silence to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the boys set about their business with a hunger that we have sometimes missed from them.

The first half was a huge battle, very evenly contested, and we managed to score through tenacity, tough tackling on the edge of the box, and the ball broke to Joshua who slotted away calmly. I must admit to a slighty unprofessional fist pump to celebrate, but this was not just about the goal, it was the way the boys were playing.

Flynn and Louie were absolute giants at the back, and we had our very own Super-Joel in goal. Jack / Ellis in CM and Josh as a false 9 (to contain the very strong opposition) were magnificent, and in wide areas, we had George, George, Jack and William rotating to excellent effect).

Into the second half and we continued our policy as a a development club, rotating players into different positions to maximisine their learning experiences, and this included changing our first choice goalkeeper so he can have his turn on pitch as well. However, we maintained the intensity and the fight, and continued to create chances.

The opposition did as well, and they truly do have some gifted players who tested us as much as we have ever been tested in a game, but when you consider that their manager made a point of sayin how well we had done and even sent us a video message to praise our players, all the boys can hold their heads high.

We will continue to learn and develop, but it was a real pleasure on Saturday to lead this bunch of heroes!
