Whitstable in seventh heaven with perfect start to the league season!

A revised kick off time, saw the Whitstable Under 12s start their league season on a sunny Sunday morning at Radfall against Faversham Town. The weather had mentioned a chance of precipitation, but thankfully the only thing that rained, was goals, as the boys provided the perfect response to last week’s cup exit.

The early start meant regular keep Philip would only be available from half time, so Finlay thankfully took up the gloves in goal. A back three of Max P right, Kasper central and Daylee on the right. Oscar and Max B started in centre midfield, with Alfie captaining the team in a more attacking role. Isaac and Flynn offered width and Jonny was keen to make an impact from the bench.

The lads were at it from the start building on a good Thursday training session, with smiles on their faces and enjoying playing football. The solid defensive base of Max P, Daylee and Kasper gave us time to establish early control of the game and exploit space behind their defence on the wings. The first goal came from Max B, turning is a cross after some good build up play. A second soon followed, Alfie turning in Max B’s corner, to prove Tony wrong, we can actually score from corners. The third came from some determined play by Flynn, who closed down the defender and squeezed a shot into the near post. A fourth before halftime with a superbly volleyed finish by Oscar from Flynn’s corner. The lads came off at half time buzzing with excitement and full of belief. The team had controlled the game and barely given Faversham a chance with some strong goalkeeping and defensive play, a creative midfield and clinical finishing.

The second half gave the watching parents, family and friends more of the same, with Phil in goal, Finlay moved into centre back and Kasper the CDM role. The team continued to play some excellent football, creating chances as we pushed for more goals. A 5th came from Jonny who used his speed to create an opening that he calmly finished. Flynn got his second with a nice strike and Isaac completed the scoring after good work on the left. More chances came at both ends, but we managed to keep the clean sheet and all the lads should be proud of a fantastic team performance.

Special mention to the Faversham team, who were very sporting and, on another day, may have got a few goals, but today was ultimately Whitstable day. Every player was on their top game and produced a great performance, well done boys. Brilliant to see everyone smiling at the end and a strong start to the league season.
