All the fun of the Fair!

As the dodgems, carousel and ghost train rolled out of Faversham Rec, it reminded me of the time I was fired from my job tending to the Ferris wheel without any explanation. ...It was funfair dismissal!

This Sunday though Faversham had a new form of entertainment in the guise of Whitstable Town U12s as we claimed another league victory in a 5-1 win over previously unbeaten Faversham Strikeforce.

The team had lost Max B to injury midweek, but the remaining ten lads put in a brilliant performance from the first whistle. Phil returned in goal, meaning Fin Wrattan was back in the heart of the defence, with regulars Daylee on the left and Max P right. Kasper started CDM alongside Oscar, with Alfie the more advanced. Flynn started on the right, Isaac left and Jonny ready to repeat his super sub goalscoring from the bench.

The pitch did seem to be on the large side, but with our pace on the wings and some great midfield creativity we were soon opening the opposition up. In fact, it took less than a minute for us to make the breakthrough, a beautifully threaded through ball from Alfie found Isaac who slotted it home. The left-wing maestro became provider minutes later when his corner went through a melee of players to find Flynn at the back post to finish, 2-0.

Great work from Oscar found the ball through to Jonny who lashed it home for his third in as many games. The domination continued and as potent as our attack was, the defensive display should also be commended, the back three were excellent, Phil responding well when called upon and Kasper had their best player in his pocket. Our superiority in the half was rewarded with a fourth before the half time whistle, Max P burst forward ‘Cafu-esque’ slide the ball through for Isaac to score his second. 4-0, what a half!!

For the first time this season we saw a return to half time oranges as reward for a fruitful first 30 mins. The coaching team reiterated that it was only half the job done and not to take their foot off the gas. Faversham however had other ideas and came out strongly in the second half, playing some decent football and putting our defence under pressure. Some reshaping of positions meant the lads didn’t maintain the high standards and Faversham got a deserved goal back. The formation was tweaked again, and we managed to regain our grip on the match. It was certainly a more even half, but we had done enough in the first 30 for it to feel comfortable. With moments remaining we were rewarded a free kick some way out. Up stepped Flynn to wallop it over the keeper’s head for his second, rounding off a fine 5-1 away win.

3 wins on the bounce and the table makes happy reading, as we sit top of the league. Tough games to come but we have some momentum, and the lads are playing some great free scoring football, creating from midfield and look solid in defence. Still searching for the clean sheet that the gaffer craves, but we’ll settle for continuing the winning streak!

Well played all.
