Morale boosting result

Against opponents with a squad of just 11 on the day due to illness, Whitstable found their stride and totally dominated the match on a difficult, bumpy pitch.
An early goal (4 minutes) by Jacob settled Whitstable but it wasn't until a period 15-20 minutes either side of half time that the team hit top gear. Central defender Hamish went on a marauding run virtually the length of the pitch to score Whitstable's second after 29 minutes then Stan added two quick goals to put Whitstable 4-0 ahead at half time. The midfield, driven on by Tom and assisted ably by Kiernan and Herbie in the first half, ensured we won every loose ball and kept the momentum going. On the few occasions St Margaret's reached our penalty area Theo came out quickly to snuff out the danger.
Immediately after half time St Margaret's scored what turned out to be their consolation goal. Within eight minutes Whitstable had scored three more goals, all slotted in by Jacob after great team moves. Callum burst forward to score our eighth goal after 51 minutes. Another three goals were added by Harry (2) and Stan to wrap up the scoring.
The most pleasing aspect in the middle period of the game was how the team responded to the coaches' instruction to play much shorter passes which in turn led to at least four or five goals. The rest of the central defenders - Zac, Alfie and Wilson - kept their concentration throughout and Oscar had a good game at right wing back.
Our opponents kept trying to play for the whole match and worked hard but unsurprisingly ran out of steam after half time. This was an excellent team performance by the Whitstable boys which should boost our confidence going into two tough matches.
