Playing the league leaders for a second time in the month, Whitstable were keen to grab a positive result today. Despite a great start it wasn't to be and in the final 15 minutes or so Whitstable ran out of steam and were left disappointed again.
Whitstable started brightly and a quick throw over the defence put Stanley Griffiths through. Despite the wide angle Stan managed to beat the goalkeeper with a clever finish with his weaker foot. The momentum was building but Woodnesborough found a way to beat Theo Bentley-Hussey in the Whitstable goal despite an initial save. The teams were toe to toe for the rest of the half and went in level thanks mainly to a fantastic penalty save from Theo, following a rather harsh decision.
After the break Whitstable started strongly again and Kobey Love scored a fine goal from the left side of the penalty area within a minute of the restart. Unfortunately Whitstable were unable to hold onto the lead. After 41 minutes a Woodnesborough midfielder wasn't closed down quick enough and struck a fierce shot from 25 yards which beat Theo in the corner of his goal. Just over ten minutes later Woodnesborough sewed up the match with two goals in two minutes following individual errors. A fifth goal was added after 64 minutes before Stanley scored an inventive third for Whitstable, lobbing the keeping and two defenders despite having his back to goal.
It was another great effort from the Whitstable boys but not quite enough to defeat the runaway league leaders. We weren't as good as normal with the ball today but there were plenty of other positive aspects for us to take from the game.
