Thanks to Graham for this week's match report

On a very wet and muddy day, Whitstable under 9s hosted Anchorian Hearts under 9s from Gillingham. Whitstable started brightly with some great link up play between Tia and Grace in the first of four periods of 10 minutes. Whitstable had the most of the ball in the first period. When they did have to defend, Alys was in good positions to snuff out most Anchorian attacks. Meanwhile the Whitstable goalkeeper Maddie, was trying to keep warm when she was called in to action towards the end of the first period! She produced a good save.
Changes after the first period saw Anchorians come back in to the game. They passed the ball well which was impressive on what was becoming a difficult, muddy surface. This along with the heavy rain was probably not what most of the Whitstable girls had in mind when they started playing football for the first time this summer!
The third period was more like the first as Whitstable played some good football which led to many goal scoring opportunities. There was some good last ditch defending and some very good saves from the Anchorians goalkeeper. This set the final period up for an exciting finish. I’ve not heard of the saying “it was a game of 4 quarters” before but if there was one, then this was it. As they did in the second quarter, Anchorians came out really strong in the fourth period and again put some very good moves together. There was some really good tackling from Emily which helped break up the Anchorian attacks.
Overall, the girls can be very proud of themselves from this showing. The conditions were tough for both sides and this experience will only help the team over the rest of the season.
