For the last game of the season Whitstable under 9 girls travelled to play Sittingbourne ladies. Before the game a minutes applause was observed by both clubs to pay respect to Jordan Banks who was tragically struck by lightning while football training.
The first quarter was very close with both sides playing brilliant football. Both goal keepers were kept busy providing some great saves. Alys was so close to scoring her first goal for Whitstable and was only prevented by a good save from the Sittingbourne keeper.
The second quarter was very similar to the first with excellent skills on show by captain Maddie, with Grace working really hard up front. Iris was also amazing in goal.
During the third quarter Emily showed her strength and had a brilliant shot only to be denied by the out stretched leg of the Sittingbourne keeper. With Ayana and Annabel defending and making tackles and some amazing dribbling by Tia the game was end to end.
Going into the last ten minutes of the season the girls gave everything, with Dorothy making a world class save in the very last minute.
So the girls first season as a team has been stop start and difficult due to covid, but they have coped amazingly and played with a smile on their face. The improvement the girls have made individually and as a team has been remarkable and everyone should be super proud.
Well done girls!
