WHITSTABLE TOWN 4 ERITH AND BELVEDERE 0
Pre-season friendly
Tuesday July 11 2023 19:45
Whitstable had started their pre-season fixtures with a big win, before two heavy defeats followed. For this game, last season’s SCEFL Premier Division champions Erith and Belvedere returned to the Belmont, as preparations for the fast approaching campaign continued and Whitstable ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, playing some impressive football and scoring four very good goals, two in each half.
Josh Williams opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he intercepted a loose pass, skipped past a challenge and fired a left footed shot past goalkeeper Jordan Perrin from 22 yards. Harry Gamble had the ball in the net shortly afterwards, but was denied by an offside flag. Williams was on target again in the 30th minute, receiving a Liam Gillies pass on the right and cutting inside before hitting a low shot in off the near post. Gamble had another close range finish ruled out for offside after the break, as numerous substitutes were used. Whitstable eventually scored again in the 71st minute following a good move with two of the substitutes combining as Jeffrey Oredein set up Josh Oliver to find the net from 25 yards. The scoring was completed in the 82nd minute when Gus Barnes delivered an accurate cross from the right and Steadman Callender arrived to head the ball in from close range.
Pre-season games continue on Saturday when another Isthmian South Division team East Grinstead Town visit.
