More Second Half Misery

Whitstable travelled to play Erith Town on Saturday, but despite taking the lead through Kyron Lightfoot in the 7th minute, they were once again unable to hold on to their early advantage. The Dockers were awarded a penalty that was converted by Steadman Callendar in the 34th minute and Tola Odedoyin added a second a couple of minutes later. Whitstable fought back to equalise just before the half time break when Will Thomas made it 2-2. The second half saw the home team quickly add three further goals to settle the outcome. Alfie Eldridge, Callendar again and Ladic Melconian all found the net within the opening 14 minutes of the half. Whitstable offered little in response and will need to turn things around quickly if they are to challenge at the top end of the table this season.

Unfortunately, due to the partial closure of the M2 and the rail strike, very few away supporters and club officials were able to complete their journey from the Kent coast in time to attend the game, which no doubt contributed to the poor attendance of just 64. As a consequence, there will be no photographs or detailed match report from this game.

Kennington visit the Belmont on Tuesday, when Whitstable will be hoping for some considerable improvement, having now slipped to tenth in the table.
