WHITSTABLE TOWN 3 CHISLEHURST GLEBE 0
SCEFL Premier Division
Saturday March 21 2026 15.00
Whitstable moved closer to being confirmed champions after beating an in-form Chislehurst Glebe team 3-0 and now require just one point from their last six games to be mathematically certain of the title and promotion. Another large home crowd had a relatively stress free afternoon once a misdirected back pass midway through the first half gifted the opening goal to Javaun Splatt. Chances to increase the lead were not taken until just before half time when a corner led to a series of shots being kept out before Splatt fired in his second. After a bright response at the start of the second half by the visitors, Jack Nelson settled the outcome with Whitstable's third goal and thoughts could turn to results elsewhere and the next game.
The midweek win at Punjab United meant that another three points for Whitstable against Chislehurst Glebe would seal the title if Fisher failed to gain maximum points against Kennington. Whitstable had won 2-0 when the teams met in December, but the visitors, who have gained some momentum themselves under manager Frankie Sawyer after a tricky start to the season, arrived in good spirits after four wins and a draw from their last five games. There was more squad rotation from Whitstable who made five changes to the team that beat Punjab United three days earlier. Those ruled out due to injury included Ricardo Thompson, Jake McIntyre, Sinnkaye Christie, Ronald Sithole and Jack Peters, but back among the substitutes were longer term injury victim Mikey Dalton and the returning Robbie Rees whose last Whitstable game was the FA Vase final at Wembley. Goalkeeper Dan Colmer was making appearance number 100 for Whitstable and was presented with an award by Dan Eason at half time. The Chislehurst Glebe team was led by the current league top scorer Jamie Philpot. The attendance on a day when there was a slim chance of the Oystermen being confirmed league winners was an excellent 860.
A minute's applause in memory of former Whitstable player Lee Horton was held prior to the kick off.
The first opportunity came when Jack Nelson ran on to a Bradley Schafer pass before shooting across goal and wide from outside the box. He next stretched for another Schafer pass into the middle, but could only lift the ball into the grateful hands of goalkeeper Nathan Edwards. Whitstable continued to have a lot of the ball in forward areas without quite being able to find an end product. Javaun Splatt struck a free kick over the bar and Nelson's header also went over. Chislehurst Glebe were trying to play out fron the back with Whitstable doing their best to apply some pressure and when Connor Wilkins closed down Mitchell Chapman a hasty back pass went straight to an unmarked Splatt who calmly rolled the ball past Edwards to give Whitstable a 23rd minute lead.
A quiet period followed before the teams left the pitch while the visitors' goalkeeper sat down for a couple of minutes. When the game continued, Schafer put an overhead kick wide from a right wing cross. Then a pass out by Edwards was intercepted by Jayden Boulton who found Splatt and he crossed for Schafer, but Rolex Buiti made a timely block, injuring himself in making the challenge. A corner swung in by Tom Cousins was met by Philpot at the near post, but his header flashed across goal and past the far post. Whitstable doubled their lead in the 44th minute from a Schafer corner kick that was cleared to Theo Osinfolarin whose first time shot from the edge of the box was destined for the top corner but was well saved by Edwards who managed to push the ball out; it reached Schafer who had two attempts blocked by Buiti before Splatt chested it down and found the top corner from six yards.
Trailing 2-0 at the break, Chislehurst Glebe made two substitutions before the restart and began quite brightly, offering more of a threat than they had managed in the first half. They created probably their best chance of the match when a good move released Brandon Barrance on the right and his cross was lifted over the bar by Nathan Mampono from 12 yards. Whitstable's first opportunity of the half saw Nelson head an Osinfolarin cross over the bar in the 54th minute. Finn O'Mara sent the ball forward to Nelson who controlled it before cracking a left footed shot off the angle of post and bar from just inside the box. Chapman collected the game's first yellow card for a foul on Schafer about 28 yards from goal and Wilkins drilled the free kick just wide. It was his last involvement as he was replaced in midfield by Rees in the 63rd minute. Colmer then spilt a low cross at the near post and Mampono had a couple of attempts to force home the loose ball, but Whitstable eventually cleared the danger.
A third Whitstable goal in the 72nd minute effectively killed the contest and it was well worked as Fin Cotton and O'Mara combined to find Boulton in space on the left and he turned inside before passing to Nelson who shot past Edwards. Buiti came forward and tried a long range shot that was off target, then when Nelson was wrestled to the ground outside the area, Harry Sargent was booked before Splatt drove the free kick into the wall and Edwards easily saved the follow up shot by Rees. The only notable action in the remaining time were a couple of yellow cards and more substitutions, including a brief, but welcome, return to action for Mikey Dalton who had been out with a knee injury for around three months. Whitstable had the three points they wanted and their long unbeaten run continues.
Whitstable now have an opportunity to secure the league championship when they travel to Rusthall on Tuesday evening. A win or a draw will be enough to ensure they cannot be caught by their last challengers Fisher. They then have an 11 day break before returning to action with two home games over the Easter weekend.
