Under 10s growing in confidence

Barham Youth U10’s v Whitstable Town U10’s

This afternoon we travelled to a very cold, picturesque Barham.

Whitstable started very strong with a good pass from Finley to Ted who took his shot but it just went wide. We won the ball from the goal kick and Finley had a good run and a great shot which bounced off of the cross bar. Barham were next on the attack and were passing the ball well. They went for the shot but it was saved comfortably by Noah. It wasn’t long before Barham were back on the ball but Nathan was tracking back and defending very well to make sure that Barham could not get that shot in. There were a few good runs and shots by Ted but the ball just did not want to hit the target. You could tell that a goal was on its way and it was Barham that got the first one. We responded well with a fantastic ball from Leon through to Ted who finally managed to bury the ball after a number of near misses. We were attacking again and the keeper made a very good save. He took his goal kick which was intercepted by Ted who then ran with the ball and scored his second goal. Barham were playing some good football but Elian kept winning the ball from them and made some excellent passes forward putting us on the attack again but the Barham keeper was very quick to the ball not letting us take a shot.

The second half kicked off and Finley had a very good shot at goal which hit the post and bounced back to the head of Josh. Josh headed the ball well towards goal but it just went wide. Barham then had a run at goal, passing well along the way but Noah had their shot covered. Nathan and Elian continued to defend well and Joel and Leon were causing problems for Barham in midfield. Josh was next on the attack, showing off some skills and striking the ball well to give him a well deserved goal. Very quickly after, Leon had a good run and hit the back of the net giving us another goal. Barham continued to play well with some excellent defending and great saves by their keeper. Joel had a very good run from the half way line, taking the ball around a number of players but couldn’t quite finish which was unfortunate because it would have been a very good goal. Late on there were some shots from Leon, Finley and Ted but they were all slightly off target.

It was a very entertaining game and both teams battled hard until the final whistle.

Goal scorers today were:
Ted with 2
Josh with 1
Leon with 1

Well down to Elian who very deservedly was awarded Player of the Match.
