U10s continue to improve

This afternoon we welcomed Monkton FC to Radfall.

Both teams started well with end to end play but we were first to get a break when we won a corner. Josh took the corner which found the head of Ted but it just went wide. Monkton were then on the ball making a run forward but Will applied great pressure and won the ball back. We passed it around and Monkton defended well and the ball went out for a throw. Ted took a massive throw and Nathan managed to get his head on it but there was not quite enough power for it to hit the target. We were on the ball again this time with Leon taking a low shot which the keeper got his hands to but the ball had already crossed the line giving us our first goal. Quickly from the restart Monkton were on the attack but Nathan defended very well, won the ball back and went on a run. Monkton won the ball back and took it forward but Elian stopped their run and put the ball out for a corner. The corner was taken and it was collected comfortably by Noah who then launched the ball up the pitch to Ted. The ball was taken forward and passed to Josh who made a great effort on his left foot but the keeper was there to make a good save. There continued to be some great end to end play when Josh managed to win the ball and pass to Ted who took a shot and scored a cracking goal. Whitstable were passing well and had several good attempts at goal but the Monkton keeper was there to ensure the ball didn’t cross the line. There was some great tracking back and defending late on in the first half by Joseph. Josh had the final shot of the half but yet again the keeper made a good save.

The second half kicked off and we were straight on the attack with a run from Leon who crossed the ball to Ted but he couldn’t put it away. We were on the ball again when Ted was taken down in the box and we were awarded a penalty. Ted stepped up and struck the ball well but the keeper made a comfortable save. The Monkton keeper took his kick and they were very quickly taking the ball forward. Monkton took the shot but it just went wide. There was some good passing and Leon went on a run. He took a great shot but the ball got stuck in the mud on the line but luckily Ted was there to make sure it went over giving him his second goal. Not long after we were awarded another penalty due to hand ball in the box. Nathan stepped up this time but unfortunately the ball just went the wrong side of the post. There continued to be some good defending by Joseph and Elian and good passing between Will, Nathan and Josh. Monkton were next on the ball taking it into the box and having a short range shot for which Noah dived across the goal to make a fantastic save. There were further attempts by us with Leon, Josh and Ted all having a go. We were on the ball again and won a corner. Josh took another great corner which found Nathan who scored a sensational volley. Monkton were next on the ball and had a shot. Noah made the initial save but couldn’t quite get the rebound and Monkton managed to get a late goal. There continued to be some excellent passing and late on Will put the ball forward to Leon who hit the post in one of the last kicks of the game.
