An impressive performance and good result

Today we drove out into the blustery countryside to take on Lyminge Youth U10’s.

We started well with good play between Ted, Nathan and Leon allowing Leon to go on several runs towards goal but he was unable to get a shot in. Lyminge also had a couple of early runs but Elian and Joseph showed great defensive skills winning the ball back each time. There was some more very good passing between Ted, Nathan and Leon enabling Leon to finally take a shot but it just went wide. Lyminge were powering forward when one of their players was fouled on the edge of the box and awarded a free kick. The kick was taken and on target but Noah was able to make a comfortable save. Leyton battled well in midfield and took the ball forward a number of times but couldn’t get that final touch to take a shot. Lyminge were defending well and put the ball out for a throw. Ted launched the ball into box where Leon was waiting and scored our first goal. It wasn’t long before we had the ball again and Josh went on a run and passed the ball across the box where Ted was waiting to tap it into the bottom corner. Very quick after the restart Josh was back on the ball and had a shot which was saved by the keeper and rebounded to Nathan who placed the ball into the back of the net. There were further good runs by Joseph and Will and another couple of good shots from Josh at the end of the first half.

Straight from kick-off Leon made a well-timed pass to Josh who had another very good shot but once again the keeper was there to save it. Lyminge came out fighting with some good passing and running. Their striker was locked in a one on one with Noah when Joseph came out of nowhere with some excellent defending and cleared the ball. Leyton took the ball forward and did well to keep possession but didn’t quite have enough power on his final shot. Nathan was next on the ball with a great run and pass to Leon who then scored his second goal. We were on the attack again with Leyton battling his way passed everyone and putting the ball in the back of the net. Lyminge came back with a thumping shot that bounced off the post and was cleared up the pitch by Noah. Leyton got on the end of the ball and took it forward to score his second goal. Will, Elian and Joseph continued to get back and defend well and there were a number of shots by Josh, Ted, and Leyton. Leon also had a couple of shots with one smashing into the back of the net giving him his hat trick. Will moved up into midfield and used his skills to keep the ball and take a good shot which the keeper saved. Unfortunately for Lyminge we were dominating the game late in the second half with most of the team taking a shot at goal but unable to hit the target. Within the last seconds of the game, Nathan had a great final attempt at goal with a spectacular bicycle kick which just went wide.

A great performance all round.
Goal scorers today were:
Leon with 3
Leyton with 2
Ted with 1
Nathan with 1

Congratulations to Joseph who was awarded Player of the Match.
