Learning every game

Today we were drawn away to Margate Youth FC in the Plate.

The game started very fast and within the first few minutes Margate forced a corner. We tried to clear it but unfortunately the clearance ended up with an own goal giving Margate the lead. Soon after kick off Finley had a run and shot but the Margate keeper was having none of it pulling off a great save. We were on the attack again and won a corner. Finley took and Margate tried to clear but ending up repaying the earlier favour by scoring an own goal bringing us level. Ted, Josh, Joel, Finley and Leyton all had some good runs towards goal but were unable to hit the target. Joseph, Elian, Will and Nathan played well in defence and midfield to ensure Margate was unable to take a shot.

Margate were fired up in the second half and were attacking straight away with a number of shots early on but they were still unable to find their next goal. We had a break and Josh took the ball towards the goal only for the keeper to get hold of it. The keeper went to take his kick but was caught off guard by Josh who pounded the ball into the back of the net. Very quick we were on the attack again with some strong play between Ted and Joel leading to Joel having a great shot which rolled along the crossbar and out for a goal kick. Finley was next to have a go but the keeper made a great save denying our current top goal scorer of another one to add to his tally. Margate came back strong and had a cracking shot at goal that was saved spectacularly by Noah and went out for a corner. Margate took their corner and our defence cleared for another corner and then another before we were able to clear up the pitch. Margate managed to intercept but Will piled on the pressure and won the ball. He ran down the line and sent a great cross in to Ted who thumped the ball past the keeper. Nathan, Joseph and Elian continued to defend well and Noah made another couple of good saves. We had the majority of the play in the latter part of the game with Leyton having several runs but he was just unable to get that final touch and a get a goal.

It was an exciting and intense game to watch and we were very pleased with the result.

Goal scorers today were:

Josh with 1

Ted with 1

Well done to Leyton who was awarded Player of the Match
