Pleasing performance from the under 10s

On a surprising sunny and warm February afternoon, Whitstable Town under 10’s lined up against Herne Bay Harriers Colts for the next round of their cup matches.

Herne Bay came out strong, scoring within the first few minutes from kick off and continued to pressure the Whitstable defenders. Despite their best efforts they were unable to stop Herne Bay scoring a second from a fantastic strike from the edge of the box.

A few breakaways in midfield created some chances for the Whitstable forwards but they weren’t quite able to get the link ups to finish them and find their target.

Herne Bay tightened their own defence up and soon were back on the offensive, and an edge of the box free kick was stopped by keeper Noah.

Just before the half time whistle, a corner kick for Herne Bay tested Noah again, before a rebound shot found its target.

In the second half Whitstable came out stronger and created further chances up front with some good play between Nathan, Leyton and Josh in midfield and Joel, Finn and Ted up front. And when Herne Bay did manage to break through on the attack, solid defending by Eli, Will and Joseph and steady goalkeeping by Noah prevented any further goals being scored.

Whitstable battled hard the entire game against a very strong Herne Bay side and the boys should be very proud of their resilience and hard work which wasn’t unfortunately reflected in the score line today.
