''Well we woke up very early to reach our target Playing Ramsgate away on a trip down to Margate...'' (copyright Chas and Dave circa 1982).

A first away trip of the season saw a very early start for team in red as we trekked down for a 9.30 kick off.

Credit to all the parents and players that we managed to have a full squad all there in plenty of time for the early start and a decent pre-match warm up. Rumours circulated across the terraces that Fred had been busy baking again and we anticipated a feast, of football on the pitch and cake off it*.

Another windy day and another game with two teams in red, this time we bibbed up in blue. A starting 7 of Louis in goal, Kasper and Louis at the back. Max B , Max P and Alfie in midfield and Isaac up front. Daylee and Flynn ready to enter the fray from the bench.

The boys worked really hard for each other and battled against the wind in the first half, all putting in a really good shift. Both teams showed great attitude and attempts to play some quality football. All the main action seemed to come in the last five mins of the half. First a goal for the home team after a well worked move. A minute later a stunning save from young Louis to kept us in the game. The crowd had barely had time to settle, when we were up the other end and after good work from Daylee, the ball fell to Flynn who calmed struck the ball in the bottom left hand corner and we went in at half time honours even.

The second half saw a change of personnel and a a switch of positions. The team have been great at adapting to different roles as they develop as players. The boys continued to play some great football. All of them can be proud of their performances in the second half and they came so close to getting a second. A number of good set pieces nearly reaped rewards but we were unable to find a second. Fair play to Ramsgate they played well and nicked a second probably against the run of play.

If the boys keep playing with the spirit and attitude of this game they will get their bit of luck and the result their efforts deserve, well played all. A draw would have been a fair result. All came off with their heads held high, and safe in the knowledge that they all worked hard for each other.

Whilst always difficult to only single out one player in such a strong team performance, Louis took man of the match for some stunning saves and even a special mention at the end for the referee. Well done Louis.

*The baked goods turned out to be a delightful chocolate and peanut number, thank you Hannah.
