A game of two halves

A short trip down the A299 saw the U10's visiting Herne Bay youth on the excellent Herne Bay hub 3G surface.

The team had two absentees in Alfie and Daylee, but were delighted to welcome Phillip to the team, having trained with us for several weeks.

We started with Louis in goal, Max B and Max P at the back, Kasper centre mid, Flynn right, Isaac left and Finlay up front. we huffed and puffed a bit and the boys didn't see quite awake for the first half as Herne Bay established a commanding lead. Louis made some good saves, but our chances were few and far between. Max P took a knock and Phillip came on for his debut.

At halftime we encouraged the lads and asked for them to transfer the effort and enthusiasm we have seen in training and recent games. Max P came back on for Flynn and we started the second half with renewed vigour. Working for each other and starting to play some football. We were unlucky with some good chances. We suddenly looked like a team. Louis was making some fine saves, Kasper was commanding at the back and Phillip had a very accomplished first game, showing great touches and reading of the game. Finlay was working his socks off battling for the ball and Max P and Max B were both getting up and down well in the wide area. Isaac was having a great game creating chances and going close to scoring.

We were unlucky to concede a few more and really didn't have much luck. Flynn came back on for Finlay and after good work from Isaac he moved forward from centre midfield, took a touch and stuck a low drive into the corner to give us the goal our second half efforts deserved.

In the end the game went away from us, but the boys all came off sweating at the end and put in a second half performance to be proud off. A full match with that attitude and a bit of luck and it might have been a different result.

Well played boys.

The post match highlight was of course the baked offerings, this week we were treated to a breakfast muffin. Less heavy than last week effort and possibly the best of the season so far.
