A perfect 10

Following the drubbing at East Kent, the lads travelled to Herne searching for redemption and the loyal parents and fans were rewarded with a completely contrasting display from last week. It's really was a ten out of ten performance in many ways.

To start with two of the squad were away on a camping trip, which was nice to know at 1.15am! :) So whilst Max P and Fin were in a TENt, we arrived with a remaining squad of TEN. Tony turned up TEN minutes after the rest of the squad, but that was the only TENsion of the day. Onto the game...

We changed the formation from last week, as the lads and the management adjust to 9 a side on the larger pitches. We set up with a 2 - 4 - 2 formation, giving us two solid defenders, wing backs and two up front. The new rules outlined to the team included a reminder that we no longer have to retreat to the half line at goalkicks, no picking up pass backs to the keeper and the introduction of the offside rule.

Louis, started in goal, Rufus and Phil at the back. Flynn right wingback, Isaac left wingback, Kasper and Alfie centre mid, with Oscar and Daylee up front. Max B was on the bench*, but ready to spring into action as we rotated every TEN minutes.

*A quick side note on the actual bench, it has been an ever present this season and really adds to professionalism of the team. Lets all just take a moment to give thanks.

Back to the game and we seemed to be at it from the first whistle. An Alfie assist saw Flynn score within seconds of the kick off. A Flynn cross was unfortunately turned into his own net by a Herne Bay defender for our second. Daylee was fouled and stuck a sweet penalty into the bottom left corner for number 3. The first half scoring was completed when Kasper provided the assist for Alfie. We changed things at half time with Louis going up front and Phil into goal. The lads continued the relentless attacking in the second half. A Flynn corner resulted in a second OG. Alfie jinked through for his second and goal number 6. A Max B corner was superbly headed in by Louis for number 7 and the two combined again for a goal from a short corner. Then a handball and Kasper unluckily struck the woodwork, before Alfie got his hat trick for goal number 9. The scoring was completed after good work from Louis resulted in a smart finish from Isaac with his weaker foot, for goal TEN!

The display wasn't just about the goals: Oscar battled for every ball, Kasper bossed the midfield and all the defenders: Rufus, Phil, Max B, Isaac, Flynn and Alfie ensured a quiet day for both keepers, who did well when called upon. It was a great all round performance, a real TEN out of TEN!!

There is no 'I'I in team, but there is an I in Ian and special thanks as he stepped up to take the flag and linesman duties. With great power comes great responsibility and it was a faultless display. If he continues to perform at this level, he will have a job for life!

A note of thanks to Herne Bay who never gave up and their keeper made some great saves.

Well played all!
