A drizzly lunch time kickoff saw the Whitstable u11 team up against Dynamo, a team we'd never played before. The pitch was heavy underfoot and the grass could do with a cut but despite all the recent rain the pitch was (luckily) still playable. Whitstable started the game strongly and Ollie put the ball in the Dynamo net in the second minute of the game. Whitstable continued to play some nice football, passing the ball around and working hard to keep possession when they had the ball and getting it back when they didn't. Ollie put another goal in on 11 minutes, from a through ball from Archie, followed by a further goal from Archie in the 18th. At half time the team were positive about how they were playing.
Whitstable started the second half strongly as they had done in the first, and George scored in the first minute. Archie added to the Whitstable tally in the 8th minute with his second goal. In the 13th minute of the second half, the ball was crossed in towards the Dynamo goal; Jasper caught the ball nicely and put it straight into the bottom right corner for his first goal for Whitstable Town!
In the last minute of the game, Dynamo were awarded a penalty when one of their players was brought down in the box. Up stepped goalkeeper Thomas who, despite being largely untroubled throughout the game, coolly saved the penalty, and the follow up attempt. A great end to an interesting game.
Josh worked hard at the back despite being poorly during the week and Charlie was solid in midfield and a close contender for Man of the Match. However this accolade went to Jasper for consistently making great tackles and getting the ball back for the team, and of course for his first goal!
A number of training points were noticed by the Whitstable coaches, so at training this week the u11As will be working on throw-ons and corner taking and defending!
