Whitstable U11s have a license to thrill

In a week that saw the delayed release of the latest James Bond film, we were on our own (not so) secret mission down to Folkstone. In search of our first win of the season we should thank the parents and players for all making a big effort just to get there amidst the fuel crisis, as we had 11 players for the game all on time and up for challenge!

Playing on a nice 3G astroturf, we started with a 3-4-1 formation. Phil in goal. Defensive three of Max B, Max P and Daylee. Kasper in centre midfield, Alfie attacking midfield, Flynn right, Isaac left and Oscar up front. Finlay and Rufus ready to come on front he bench.

A bright opening saw us create plenty without making the opponent's pay. When we did find the net, the opposition linesman raised the flag in what was to become a regular sight! Happy to play the role of bond baddie, some of the offsides seemed questionable to say the least.

As has become a familiar story, we were hit in the break, a high lofted effort flew into the net and we found ourselves going behind. Were we facing the spectre of a defeat?

However we refused to be shaken or stirred, on came Finlay and Rufus and immediately we felt more intensity in our play and got our reward with a far post cross finish by the our man with the golden boot Oscar. Moments later and it was double 0 heaven as Oscar was put clear and struck a accurate finish for two one at half time.

The second half saw Isaac and Daylee taking a rest with Flynn coming into defence and Max B moving to left midfield. We kept scaring the living daylights out of the opposition defence, with great energy and only thwarted by the the linesmans continued flagging, its a an oddjob.

A lovely move for our third, started with Phil calmly playing the ball out of defence, a great long ball from Flynn down the wing, a cracking cross from Finlay, found Max B charging in at the back post to smash home a moonraker of a shot!

Folkestone can take a quantum of solace that they kept playing well and thought they had squeezed a goal back only for Max to clear superbly off the Jaws of the goal line.

The hard working Alfie and Kasper came off for the last quarter, and the final goal came late on as Daylee was brilliantly released by Rufus' pass and finished nicely showing a great eye for goal, a goaldeneye!

We almost got another when a thunderball free kick from Flynn struck the bar in the closing moments.

All the lads were brilliant and successfully completed the mission, a real team performance and hard to choose a player of the match really. They all showed real spirit and unity, the names Bond, Team Bond!
