Whitstable Town FC U18 KYL South

Whitstable returned to action following four weeks without a match and unfortunately, if unsurprisingly, were off the pace for most of the game. The pitch was soft but in reasonable condition, however the tail of Storm Eunice was the main feature of the day.
Kennington had the strong wind at their backs in the first half and it was always going to be difficult for Whitstable to get out of their half, particularly with some poor ball retention. The defensive line held firm for 37 minutes before Kennington’s first goal, having previously restricted the hosts to one or two chances. Going into the break just a goal down wouldn’t have been the end of the world but a corner in added time at the end of the half led to Kennington’s second just before the whistle. The goal took some of the wind out of Whitstable’s sails (pun intended!) and the second half task became much harder.
After the break there was little change. Kennington continued to be first to the ball at every breakdown as Whitstable struggled to maintain possession and tried to rely on the strong wind to get in behind the Kennington defence. The ad hoc ploy proved unsuccessful, with the ball often running out of play as runners were unable to reach the ball. For a spell Whitstable were quicker to the ball but it wasn’t consistent. With just over 15 minutes remaining Kennington put the game out of reach, scoring their third goal.
Whitstable return to the training ground with no scheduled match for over a month. Hopefully there will be some other matches added so that the boys have a chance to gain some rhythm and return to form.
