On a rain soaked Mothering Sunday, two top of the league encounters were due to take place with both Liverpool v Manchester City and Lyminge v Whitstable passing late pitch inspections. The latter match was the one that attracted far more interest what with both sides having not played for a few weeks.

Whitstable started the brighter of the two sides without testing the home goalkeeper and what was spoken about before the game happened with the Lyminge number 9 producing a contender for goal of the season - cutting in from the left and curling the ball into the top corner from 25yds leaving the Whitstable keeper stranded.

The Oysters' heads didn’t drop and within two mins Bradley Spratt broke clear down the right hand side before unleashing a powerful shot that beat the keeper at the near post! Before the referee had a chance to write the score down Spratt was at it again, this time flicking on a long Ben Cohen-Butterworth throw past the stranded goalie.

Whitstable were now beginning to dominate with the robust midfield trio dominating the centre of the pitch and looking to play through balls into the front three. One particular pass found Cohen-Butterworth free to drive in on goal and finish in emphatic style to bring the half time score to 3-1.

2nd half
Lyminge were going to have to come out firing to get themselves back in the game and the quality of football they produced was quite remarkable considering the heavy pitch. The stubborn Whitstable back four were being severely tested at times, with Finn Cornish being particularly combative in his quest to concede no more goals. With the half time subs of Joe Lovelock and Dylan Curson taking to the task with endeavour, the latter sitting slightly deeper of a front three, it was always going to give the away side opportunities. Dylan duly obliged, latching onto a Cohen-Butterworth pass to volley home from 20yds to put the tie beyond Lyminge. Looking for more goals, Ollie Couzens was joining the attack from full back and delivering some delightful balls with Jack Farley pressing to ensure the ball remained in the home team's half. A foul was conceded by Lyminge 30 yards from goal which was swung into the far post to be met by Joe Samuel on the volley for his first goal of the season.

Soon afterwards, the final whistle was blown by the excellent referee (Nick Wheeler) to end a fascinating encounter contributed by two good sides - we wish Lyminge luck for the rest of their campaign.
