Last Sunday, the WTFCU14s played under the lights at the Belmont, in a hastily arranged friendly against Herne Hill Herons. We were supposed to be playing Canterbury, but they lacked players and despite us offering to play ten v ten, cancelled the match. Thanks to Wayne for bringing his team along to ensure we didnt miss the opportunity.
Overall it was a very enjoyable match, whitstable running out 5-2 winners. The friendly was a chance for us to try some players in different positions and continue to work on our revised 4-4-2 formation. All the squad were rotated with everyone apart from our goalie spending time on the bench.
Finn M was in goal and kept focussed throughout, brilliantly saving a penalty although unfortuntely couldn't get to the rebound.
Theo B played at right back, a position he hadnt previously played for Whitstable. He showed great positional sense and frequently won his tackles.
Jack was at left back and was tenacious as ever, enjoying playing against players and manager he knows well.
Jonny played in 4 positions, including ten mins for the opposition. As well as his usual centre back he had stint in centre mid and created the 5th goal for Fred when playing up front.
Reg was great at centre back, superbly setting up Felix for our opener with a long pass over the top of their defence. He went centre mid second half and showed aome great skills.
Callum was brilliant at centre back and a short spell at left fullback. Winning tackles and cutting out goal threats.
Sonny started right wing, but also did a shift at full back and up front. Calmly providing the assist for Liam to score.
Fin W played in centre mid, defence and on the wing. Equally adept in all positions, he contolled the game well.
Theo V was everywhere in centre mid, winning tackles and creating chances. His skill and agility was great to see.
Captain Liam played left wing and was a constant threat, scoring with a nice finish in the second half. Even managed a short spell as a striker.
Flynn played left and then right wing. Showing good skills, he created Freds forst with a nice cross and scored with a speculative effort that he claimed he meant!
Felix provided a great finish for the first goal, provided elentless running as always and even did a short spell in defence at the end.
Fred played up front and always looked a threat. Scored his first two goals for the team, a great header and a cool finish. Highlight of the match was his celebration for the first, a 40 yard run to the halfway line and attempted knee slide.
Congratluations also to Herne Hill who never gave up and performed well.
Overall a great game.
