Nearly a Resurrection on Easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday afternoon, the home fixture saw top of the table Ashford visiting Radfall Rec for what turned out to be an eggstraordinary game!

We have shown this season that we can compete with all the other teams in the league and held Ashford 1-1 at half time in the reverse fixture, until Justins offer of free pizza saw us fall like 'Dominos' and lose 5-1!

The 14 player squad, started in a 4-3-3 formaton, Fin M in goal, back line of Calum, Max, Jonny and Fin W. Reg as CDM with Liam and Ruben in midfield, Felix wide left, Sonny right, Cooper central striker. Jack, Fred and Josh ready to make an impact from the bench.

We knew what to expect from Ashford, a tough game and a load of mouth. The game started sunny side up when Sonny scrambled home the opener in the 13th minute, poaching on a through ball from Reg like a hungry bunny at a chocolate hunt and finishing calmly.

All the lads were up for it, not hiding away from any tackles and further chances saw Felix and Liam come close to increasing our lead. Alas Ashford struck back and then quickly got a second to lead 2-1 at halftime. This time there was no promise of pizza, just the desire to hunt for more goals.

Jack was on at left back, Calum into the centre and Fred up front. We dominated possession and chances, Fred hit the post and shortly afterwards had a great finish ruled out for offside.

Things boiled over in midfield as the mouthy number 5, decided to give one insult too many and the ref issued a yellow card.
Then came a moment of pure brilliance: Fin W, cool as a creme egg in the fridge, smashed a yolk-dropping free kick right into the top corner to make it 2-2.

Just when hope was hatching, disaster struck again—two quick opposition goals had us reeling like a poorly hidden Easter egg. 4-2.

Last season we would have seen heads drop and been bullied out of the game, but not this season! The team wasn't done, some great wing play from Felix, saw him fouled in the box. Fin W stepped up to slot it home, 4-3.

As Sonny and Ruben went to collect the ball , their keeper lashed out and ended up with egg on his face as the ref issued a straight red and he was egg-spelled from the pitch. Their manager was hopping mad and ran on the pitch but our boys remained calm and focussed on the last few minutes and went searching for a deserved point.

Unfortuntely a late free kick narrowly went over the bar and we couldn't quite complete an Easter Sunday resurrection.

Despite the loss, the lads left the pitch with their shells intact, they had put on a cracking show, leaving Ashford shell-shocked and our fans entertained.

Well played all, we are proud of you!
